Making Money online - Step by Step Niche Research Guide

Step 1: Research

I've heard some people say that this is the hardest and most important part of building any site.

When it comes to research, it is important to keep several things in mind, the first being:

The late Gary Halbert used to tell a story about opening a hamburger stand. At his seminars he would ask the crowd this question:
“If you and I were both going to open a hamburger stand and you could pick any one thing to give you an advantage over me, what would you pick?”
The people from the crowd would shout back:
“A great location”
“The best-tasting hamburger”
“A clean, attractive stand”
“Excellent employees”
After a while of this Gary would pause and say: “Go right ahead and take all those, but I can guarantee my stand will outsell yours, because the one advantage I’m going to pick is… A STARVING CROWD!"

But having a starving crowd isn't enough. Since you are doing this in your free time, you will not be able to compete with the big dogs going after those same starving people. You need to find things that people are searching for that aren't being targeted by the big dogs.

For example: In my research today, I was checking out "credit card" related keywords. There was a lot of traffic, and the people looking to consolidate debt were definitely starving for a solution, but all the keywords involved very common phrases "credit card consolidation" or "free instant credit report". These terms are very common and there are lots of results in the search engines for them.

This is why I love the diet niche so much. There is always some new pill or weight loss secret on the market. When a new term appears out of no-where, it puts everyone on a level playing field. There are no website built around that term, so it is much easier to rank for them. For example, go to www.google.com/insights and type in "diet pills" and look at the rising search terms. The top 3 rising searches with over 10x increase in search results in the past 3 months are about the "acai" diet pill. The term "acai" is very new and got a huge boost when it was featured on Oprah recently. There are very few aged sites with high pagerank and many backlinks based around this "acai" term.

I was unable to find any new breakthrough term in the credit card niche, (except for maybe "prepaid credit card for teens", if someone is looking for an experiment, you might want to check that one out)so I kept searching.

Moving on...
The total amount of time I spent on research today was about 30 minutes. I thought about going with the acai berry, but I already have a profitable site related to that and I thought it would be cheating. After not finding anything that caught my eye in the diet pill niche, I moved to credit. I skipped that niche because of the reasons above and moved to the cancer niche. I plugged "cancer" into http://www.google.com/insights and looked at the top results and started clicking down the list, looking for some term that has been increasing in popularity recently. Nothing stood out, so I went to the keyword suggestion tool over athttp://tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/ and http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/ and typed in "cancer" there. That's when something caught my eye.

Obviously not what I was looking for, but that's how niche research works. You get going and things just keep hacking away and you never know where you'll end up, but ideas eventually start falling into your lap.

That word looked good. There are 500 searches per day on it (this seems a bit high for such a long-tail keyword so I think it may be inaccurate) and it doesn't seem like a keyword that many sites would target. It opens up a lot of monetization possibilities too, from horoscopes to dating/relationship to penis enlargement.

I plugged the keyword into googles keyword tool (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal) to double-check the number of searches, and it shows up as only 200 searches per month. This made me think it was a fluke in the seobook keyword tool. I then did a search for "how to attract gemini" in wordtrackers free keyword tool (http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com) and it showed up as about 60 searches per day. I think googles tool is a bit inaccurate when it comes to long-tail keyphrases for some reason. I also think SEObooks tool over-estimates the traffic. There is a lot of estimation going on here, but it's apparent this search term does get at least SOME traffic, and you can obviously target other horoscopes like gemini, cancer, taurus, etc, to expand your reach.

That's a VERY good number of searches.

In general, I've heard that anything with 100 searches per day and less than 20k results in google when you search for the phrase in quotes is an easy niche to place on the front page for.

Look at the 3rd suggestion on the wordtracker tool for "how to attract". You'll see the phrase "how to attract a virgo female". Type that into google in quotes. There are just 407 results.

This phrase is going to be VERY easy to rank for.

Ok, I'm definitely targeting this niche. Now I have to decide what my domain name is going to be. Domain name matters VERY much in search engine rankings. On one hand, you may want a short general domain that is easy to remember. For example, with the niche I'm targeting, I may want "www.horoscopeattraction.com" and then I can target every different keyword in that niche. But, since each keyword is along the lines of "how to attract a virgo female", and none of that keyphrase is in my domain name, it will be hard to rank for. So, on the other hand, you want your domain name to be very specific to your keyphrase to make it easier to rank.

*Note: This is where I stopped writing a couple weeks ago. I ended up buying the domain howtoattract.org and put a little content on it that I copied and rewrote from other sites, and submitted it to a few social bookmarking sites just to get it indexed. I haven't done anything with it since then and it's getting about 50 visitors per day and has made $1.07 through adsense clicks.

I'm going to go ahead and stop right here and give a few "Action Steps" for anyone following along to complete.

Action Steps:

1. Find A Niche

If you have any ideas already, look them up with with googles keyword toolhttps://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and SEObook's keyword suggestion toolhttp://tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/ and narrow it down to a specific keyword that is searched for often. Put the search term in google in quotes and see how many results there are. In general, you should try to find something with 300+ searches per month and under 50k results in google when searched for in quotes.

2. Monetization

Make sure you can make money off of the niche. One of my first mistakes was finding the "Ben 10" niche and making "watchben10online.info". Yes, I got a lot of traffic and there was little competition, but the people looking for free online tv episodes are not the kind of people to spend money, and it was very hard to monetize that site.

Do a search on www.clickbank.com www.cj.com and use a google search of "niche keyword" "affiliate program" to see if there are any affiliates programs for a product in your niche. You may also consider ebays partner network as you can find almost anything on ebay. To see how much adsense clicks pay, you can use googles adwords tool and select "Show average CPC(cost per click)" in the "Choose columns to display: " selection

(I am using adsense right now, but will soon add dating and relationship books from clickbank and paydotcom)

3. Get A Domain

I strongly suggest you buy a domain and hosting (hostgator.com) rather than use a free service like blogspot. This gives you much more freedom and makes you look much more professional. Even if it's just a $1.99 .info and $7/mo basic package from hostgator, it will give you much more freedom and room to build, and if you really take action, it will be VERY hard to not make way more than your investment back. Even better I just checked to see if there were any coupons for host gator online if you use the code "HGCOUPONBLOG" your first month of hosting is free now you really have nothing to loose.

Either way you go about it, make sure the majority of your keyword is in your comain. Try every variation of -'s and pluralities and stuff to find one that isn't taken yet.

If you choose to go with a free service like blogspot, wordpress, or squidoo, I hear blogspot ranks best in google. But you should probably register all 3 anyway.
(I am using howtoattract.org, which gives me the subdomains "howtoattract.org/a-gemini-female", etc... which is GREAT for SEO purposes for that term)

Have no money, no site, and no list but have a credit card thats not maxed out

Okay, if I had no list, no site, and no money, just a credit
card that wasn't maxed out...and I had to start all over
from scratch today and could NOT get into the make money
online niche, here is EXACTLY what I would do today.

Get your pens and pads out cause this is gonna be a long one.

Step 1 - I would spend 1 week just surfing the Internet
looking to see what was around. I'd follow news stories,
gossip, or whatever, just to get a feel for the current
climate. This way I may be alerted to niches that are either
potentially lucrative or ones that I need to keep away from
at all costs, such as if changes in laws or current economic
or political conditions make those niches tough to crack.

Step 2 - I would then write down anything that I either
currently have a knack for or an interest it, along with
anything that I find while surfing in week 1 that I might
decide I want to tackle. I'll go over this list everyday for
a week, during which time I will do the following steps.

Step 3 - I'll go to forums and discussion groups for
each niche to see what people are talking about. I'll try to
get a feel for any problems that each niche is faced with and
try to think of any way that I can personally offer a solution
for that problem.

Step 4 - I will look to see if any of the solutions
that I have come up with are currently available. I will
check Clickbank, PayDotCom, Amazon, Commission Junction and
other marketplaces to see what is out there. I will also
check to see what PPC ads are being run for these niches.

Step 5 - Finally, I will do my keyword research and
competing sites research to see how much opportunity is out
there by comparing weekly and monthly search stats to number
of competing sites. I will go over these figures for at least
a week before I even decide which niche I am going to tackle.

** NOTE ** I will also pick a backup niche. I will explain
the reason for this later. I said I had no money, no site,
no list, but I didn't say I had no knowledge. I go into this
with everything I have learned up to this point, otherwise
I wouldn't be able to make this plan in the first place.

Make sense?

Step 6 - I will make my decision and also pick my
backup niche. Now is where I begin to put my plan of attack
into operation starting with mapping out everything I am
going to do so that I don't leave anything out. Yes, you
MUST write all of it down. You are running a business and
making a comprehensive business plan. So the first step from
here is...

Step 7 - Decide on how much you want to earn in what
period of time and how much you plan to spend in order to
make that amount of money. Also, I would set a time frame for
how long I will wait until I am making the amount of money
I plan to make. If it doesn't happen in that time frame, I
scrap the whole project. Again, I know what I am doing so if
it turns out this niche isn't profitable (yes, you CAN pick a
dud) then I am going to cut my losses and move on to my
alternate plan.

Step 8 - I decide on a domain name and a hosting
company that I am going to use. Naturally, all of this has
been thoroughly researched as well to get the best name
available and to get hosting that will fit my needs and my
budget.

Step 9 - I will sign up with Aweber. I have learned
that a good autoresponder service is gold. Anybody who doesn't
see this is daft. Trust me, at one time, I was daft.

Step 10 - I will begin to create my content. I will
start with the actual product itself. Since my skills are
writing, I will make it an ebook. I feel I can do best with
an ebook. You have to do what you feel you're best at.

Step 11 - I will then work on my autoresponder series.
This also must be completely thought out. I need to know
what I am going to say in each installment of the series.
Nothing is left to chance.

Step 12 - I write up a free report to give away in
order to get opt ins.

Step 13 - I either create my squeeze page or outsource
it. Since I have no money, unless the designer takes a CC, I
will have to do this myself. Not a problem. I have done my
own so far with decent success.

Step 14 - I will either create the sales page for my
product or outsource it. Again, same criteria as above. When
I set up my web form in Aweber, I will have the opt in sent
to my sales page from the squeeze page.

Step 15 - I will submit my sales page to Clickbank and
wait for approval.

Step 16 - After the sales page is approved, THEN I will
start working on actual promotion. No point in doing it until
then because there's nothing to promote.

Step 17 - I will also assume that since I have no money
or anything else, that I also don't have a reputation behind
me, so there is little chance of me getting big names to
promote my product. Besides, I'm not in the IM niche anyway
so I'd be looking elsewhere for JVs anyway. So step 17 will
begin with my actual promotion of my squeeze page, NOT my
sales page.

Why?

Because I am looking to earn my prospects' trust first. So I
want to give them as much content as I can before I start to
try to sell to them.

Step 18 - I will begin to write articles...as many as
I can for my niche and submit them to Ezine Articles ONLY. I
don't want to waste a lot of time and I have found from my
own experience that EZA gives me the best results.

Step 19 - Because this is a non IM niche, safelists and
FFA Hosting and all that stuff that is great for the IM niche,
is going to be worthless to me now. So my next step is to
hunt out as many forums as I can for this niche to frequent.

Remember, as part of my research, I already found these. If I
hadn't I would NOT have targeted this niche. That is why
research is so important. I will frequent these forums and
add to the discussion just as I have here, thus earning the
trust of at least a few members. I will give them as much
info as I can about the niche without giving everything away
so that they don't have to buy the product.

Here is where it helps if your product is less about information
and more about something that actually does something, like a
piece of software. That way, you can give out as much info as
you like. They still need the software to solve their problem.

Step 20 - I'd pick up Camtasia, or if I couldn't afford
it, Camstudio. Again, I have a credit card.

Step 21 - I'd make videos related to my niche and submit
them to YouTube. I'd try to do a video a week. More if I can.
Make sure you have a long section at the end of the video (about
10 seconds at least) showing the URL of your site.

Step 22 - I will go to as many sites like Digg and
Stumbleupon as I can. I want to get the word out about my
free report to as many people as possible.

Step 23 - I will begin to search the Internet for
authority sites in my niche that aren't in direct competition
with me. I will look for a contact us link and write to them.
I will explain my product, explain that it has a XX% commission
and ask them if they'd be interested in promoting it. Of course
I will target the sites at the top of the SEs first and work my
way down.

Step 24 - I will seek out ezines in my niche. I will
write to the owners and ask them if in exchange for a series
of articles that I write for them, if I could run a solo ad.
I'd even offer to let them run it with their affiliate link
for my product. Go out of your way to make it as appealing to
them as possible.

Step 25 - I will set up a blog on my domain for this
niche and start to post some articles there. I want to build
my blog up as an authority site of sorts. I will not monetize
this with Adsense because that isn't my model. I'm not giving
away my traffic for pennies when I have a product to sell.

Step 26 - I will set a daily routine for article writing
and whatever other advertising I am going to do. I want to get
into a routine and also get an idea of what my conversion is.

Step 27 - If I see that the conversion is good using
the free methods that I am using, then I will start to tackle
Adwords.

Now think about this. My site is ALREADY indexed by Google. So
getting good cpc should not be too hard. Why tackle Adwords at
the start when your site has no clout on the SEs yet? To me, it
doesn't make sense.

Srep 28 - I will monitor things for 6 months and see how
profitable they are. If they're very profitable, I will then
sink more money into Adwords and other paid forms of advertising
and I will then think about if I can come up with an upsell
product. As opposed to IM, this will take me some thought, but
nonetheless, I will work on it.

If the niche is only somewhat profitable, and again, this is
all based on my business plan at the start of this all, then I
will not chuck it, but begin to work on my backup plan slowly.

If the niche is a complete failure, I will scrap it and go
through the same steps above for my backup niche.

Now, if my niche site was VERY profitable...I would THEN come
to the IM niche with solid proof of my success in other niches,
thus asserting myself as an authority on Internet marketing
and thus having a very easy time gaining the trust of others
and thus having a very easy time making a nice living in the
IM niche...if I choose to.

That's it. That's what I would do if I were starting over from
scratch.

Now, I can absolutely say that the above works because I do make
money in other niches besides IM. I don't spend as much time
on them so they're not as profitable as I could make them, but
my ROI is off the charts considering what I spend.

Yesterday I started work on my next ebook. It was about 53
pages when completed. Yes, I finished it in one business day.

Then I got to thinking...

There are people who come here and report that they're working
on their ebook for several months and can't get it done.

Honestly, this boggles my mind.

Anyway, I'm going to share a few tips, while they may seem
basic to those of you who don't have this problem, for those
who can't seem to get anything done, this might help speed up
the process.

Step 1 - Do all your research for the book FIRST. Don't
start writing ONE thing until you know EVERYTHING that is going
to go in the book.

Step 2 - Take all the notes from your research and put
them in one place, such as a word doc or whatever. Try to
arrange them in a logical sequence, close to what you'd have
the book be in.

Step 3 - Write down an outline in chapter form of
everything that is going to be in the book BEFORE you start
writing. This should include everything from the introduction
to the closing.

Step 4 - Following your outline, write the book ONE
CHAPTER AT A TIME. Pretend that the chapter you are working
on is the WHOLE book. That way you won't feel so overwhelmed
by the thought of having to complete a 50 to 100 page book.
As each chapter is completed, scratch it off your outline.

So if you have an outline of 10 chapters, even if you only do
ONE CHAPTER A DAY, you'll have that book finished in 10 days
and not 10 months.

Step 5 - Proofread each chapter as you write it. That
way the proofreading part won't seem so overwhelming. Who wants
to sit down and read a 50 page book in one sitting?

Step 6 - When the book is finished, make your PDF.

That's it...done.

A 100 page book of 25 chapters shouldn't take you more than a
month to finish just doing a chapter a day.

If you break it down like this and don't let the enormity of
the project as a whole get to you, you'll find that you're
able to crank out material at breakneck speed.

Okay, now that I have given you the outline, let's go through
a fictional example. Don't worry, I'm not going to write a
whole book here, just the shell.

Let's say our book is going to be on "How To Cure Acne In 3
Days...Naturally."

Okay, we're already done our research on what acne is, what
causes it and we know our cure because we discovered it.

Time to write our book.

Here is the very simple outline.

Introduction
Chapter 1 - What Is Acne?
Chapter 2 - What Causes Acne?
Chapter 3 - What Are The Traditional Acne Treatments?
Chapter 4 - How Can You Cure Acne Naturally? (overview)
Chapter 5 - The Steps For Curing Your Acne Naturally
Chapter 6 - Maintenance For Keeping Acne Away Permanently
Conclusion

That's it. That's our ebook. It's probably going to be about
35 to 50 pages.

So the first thing you do is write your intro.

"The purpose of this book is to give you a natural way to
fight your acne and cure it forever...etc."

This shouldn't be more than a page.

Next, you write Chapter 1 - What Is Acne?

"Acne is a condition that...etc."

You don't go into what causes it here or any treatments or
anything like that. Just tell WHAT it is.

Next you write Chapter 2 - What Causes Acne?

"Acne is caused by...etc."

This will probably take you about 3 pages to go into all the
causes of acne, including diet, dirt, etc. Again, you only
talk about the causes...nothing else.

Next you write Chapter 3 - What Are Traditional Treatments.

"Acne is commonly treated by using...etc."

There are tons of treatments for acne. You could write a book
on these alone. Keep it to about 5 pages. Talk about nothing
else other than how acne is traditionally treated.

Next you write Chapter 4 - How Can You Cure Acne Naturally?

"Acne can easily be cured naturally by...etc."

Just tell them HOW it can be cured but don't go into the
actual procedure yet. This is kind of like a teaser. You can
do this in a page or 2.

Next you write Chapter 5 - The Steps For Curing Acne Naturally

"Step 1 - ..."

That's how you do this section...step by step. You want to
make it as simple as possible to understand. You do not
discuss anything else here other than the actual steps.

This is probably going to be about 3 pages.

Next you write Chapter 6 - Maintenance For Keeping Acne Away

"In order to keep your acne from coming back...etc."

You may then want to write what follows in step by step form
as you did in chapter 5.

This will probably be a page or 2.

Next you write the conclusion.

"If you follow the steps in this book...etc."

You might want to recap some of what you discussed. Maybe
start out with something like...

"Acne is a problem that affects millions of people. Traditional
medicine only...etc."

You get the idea.

Write your ebooks using this outline and you should never have
trouble completing any book in less than a month.

Step by Step Auto Blogging Buisness Mode

This is my current business blueprint. This is something I've built up over time, and I actually really hesitate to give it away because it works so well. I've been doing this for about a year now with fair success. It really works for me, because you just set up the site once and then you hardly ever have to touch it again. It just runs itself and gets better and better over time.

Check this out and tell me what you all think:

Wordpress is the platform that everything is based on.

WP-O-Matic Plugin - this is a plugin that lets you take RSS feeds and turn them into posts automatically. More importantly, it lets you replace keywords from a list, and link them to whatever you want. This is the key to the whole game.

GoCodes Plugin - this is a plugin that lets you make neat redirects from your domain. We're using this to cloak our affiliate links.

Pick a niche, buy a domain, get WordPress and plugins set up.
Need affiliate products/links
Need keywords

Load GoCodes with affiliate links

get keyword-based RSS feeds for WP-O-Matic
- (I have a huge list of these)
- load up keywords and GoCodes URLs
- this makes all your keywords into links to your offers

submit blog RSS feed to every place possible
- (I have a huge list of these, too)
- this spreads the links to your offers all over the web

get largest ping list possible

- this helps to get all your content indexed, and your links crawled

Turn everything on and move on to the next blog.

What will happen is that the blog is continually building keyword targeted backlinks to your GoCode URLs, and sending keyword targeted traffic to your affiliate offers. Keep an eye on the affiliate programs, swap out non-performers with something different in the GoCodes setup. (This is another reason we're using GoCodes instead of directly using the affiliate URLs - you don't lose all the previous link-building).

Your blog domain is getting the benefit of all this backlink love so you will start to grow PR over time too. (This is yet another reason we're using GoCodes. All the backlinks you're generating link back to your own domain, giving YOU the PR benefit).

Do this over and over with new blogs in as many niches as you can manage. You'll start out making very little, but you'll be amazed at how much this kind of thing will grow over time.

The possibilities are endless. I'm only just scratching the surface myself.

Hi all,

As some of you may know I was brand new to this exciting bizz earlier this year (I went online in Feb)

And as some others may know - I have recently started having my first $1000 days (only a few so far mind...) I do however regularly make $250+ per day.

I ONLY say the above to illustrate something I'd like to quickly share with you -- if you are new and keen to make money online.

I'm wondering if I can share this with you please.....

I see so many newcomers thesedays trying to SELL a product direct from their site IMMEDIATELY.

This is very, very difficult -- even more so in these tough economic days.

A lot of newcomers believe that just HAVING a product on a site is enough. It isn't. 10 years ago maybe -- but not now.

A lot of newcomers will get all excited about having a shiny, sparkly product. Now I certainly am NOT crushing any passion or enthusiasm (as that's vitally important...)

...I am however saying that having a product on a site is not enough anymore. I see COUNTLESS newcomers believe that 'all they need is a product online.' (I hear this many times too...)

And this really does sadden me -- as when no sales come in (which invariably is the case) -- the initial all important enthusiasm gets slowly chipped away. Then over the following weeks, it's goodbye excitement and hello resentment. The final rampage is usually something like '...the web is a con, everyone on it is Beelzebub, you can't make money, I'm gonna set Vic Mackey on you...'

Well...the web is not a con. And I've met some of the nicest, generous people.

And - yes - you can make money.

And this is from someone (me) who was COMPLETELY NEW this year -- AND I am in arguably the TOUGHESTniche.

ANY business - on or offline - needs time (a lot of time) spent upon it to build the foundations.

Many newcomers believe the web is a magic wand.

It ain't.

Many people are selling products that made them money 10 years ago.

Those techniques don't work now.

I personally think the days of being able to sell something 'cold' to a visitor are almost over. You could do that 5/6/7 years ago -- but the web has changed a lot now.

I have been quietly watching over many years how the real pro's do it -- and they always do it the same way. I know MANY have said this before -- but it all comes down to building a list and nurturing a relationship with this list. Then - when a bit of trust is established - you introduce products that you know your list are interested in. But do this gently - don't stomp in with your size 9's screaming 'buy buy buy'

In fact - I even believe it's more than JUST building a list - you have to build a RESPONSIVE list.

Now -sure - building a list does take longer - but the results can be MUCH more dramatic.

Of course - this will mean you will need something of VALUE to give away for free - to entice people to sign up.

The problem is - so many newcomers are desperate to MAKE MONEY NOW - they will not or do not put in the time. It took me 5 months before I made ANYTHING.

Allow me to give you an example to back up my claims

A few days ago - I conducted an experiment.

I sent a VERY SMALL mailing to my list (I have over 7000 subscribers currently). I sent 200 visitors to a new FREE eBook I've created- and I sent ANOTHER 200 people to my PAID product at $67.

Now - after someone signs up for my FREE eBook - they get the OPTION to purchase my paid product - at a 50% discount ($37)

Here are the results:

FREE EBOOK: Out of 200 visitors - 111 signed up (that's a 55% success rate - which is very good)

Out of these 111 - 8 bought the product at the discounted price of $37.

TOTAL of $296

PAID PRODUCT

I also sent 200 to my paid product site. 2 people bought at $67. So that's a TOTAL of $134

So that's $430 for a small mailing (before paypal fees)

But MORE importantly...isn't it interesting that I made MORE money by sending people to a FREE offer.

If you are a newcomer -- please think about that. This is powerful stuff when done right.

Although it my offer was free (to entice people to sign up) I made more than trying to 'sell sell sell' to them immediately.

And that's the point of this whole post (yes there is a point.... )

I just wanted to say that you may want to consider using one of your products that you SELL - and INSTEAD -GIVE IT AWAY FOR FREE (if the license allows you to do this)

In return you get their email address - and then you maybe send a few more free bits - well written emails etc etc -- before you send details of a PAID PRODUCT (or the back end as it's known)

OK - I'm very aware I am in danger of this post rivaling War an Peace. So I'll stop here.

Google Hot Trends - Make Money Right Now

Here it is...step by step. It shouldn't take you longer than an hour...tops.

Step 1 - Go to Google Hot Trends.

Here is the URL:

You will notice a TON of hot trends there, so there is plenty to choose
from. These are keywords, things and people that are getting mass
searches RIGHT NOW. It will tell you the last time it was updated. Right
now, as I am writing this, it was updated about 50 minutes ago.

Step 2 - This is the part that takes a little research and most of your
hour. Look for items that you can monetize, either through selling a related
affiliate product (preferably Clickbank as it's easy to sign up) or through
Adsense.

You have to use a little imagination for the monetization part. For example,
right now, one of the hot trends is nascar results. Now, a lot of people
into nascar are into stuff like hats and shirts and other memorabilia. You
can monetize this either through Adsense ads that sell this stuff, or, if
you can find an affiliate program that sells this stuff (won't be Clickbank)
you can sell a few items yourself. Take your time on this part of it because
if you don't monetize this carefully, the next steps are going to be for
nothing.

You also want to do a little keyword research for this to make sure you're
not going up against a million sites. The newest hot trends, especially if
they've never been hot before, will have very few competing sites.

These are the ones you can cash in on quickly.

Step 3 - Get a blogger blog and name it something that fits the niche. It
isn't the best choice but waiting for your own domain and hosting will
not get you up and running quickly. So start with a blogger blog and if
you see it's taking off, you can always move everything to your own
domain later.

Step 4 - Write an article on the subject matter and put it on your blog.
If you are selling an affiliate product, make sure you have a link to it at
the end of the article.

Step 5 - Go to sites like Digg and dig your article. Do this with as many
sites as you can.

That's it.

Total time for this whole thing is one hour, more or less.

They don't all come up winners, but I have hit on some big money makers
when I picked JUST the right hot trend.

It's kind of like playing hit and run at the stock market. Yes, it's risky, but
it's the quickest way I've ever seen of making money when it works, which
for me is about 40% of the time.

Like I said, if you've got nothing to do (and that's the key) and you can
blow an hour in your day, or just want to take an hour to have some fun
(yes, this can be a real thrill ride looking to see if your site takes off) then
I don't see the harm.

Are there better ways to make money for your business? Of course there
are, but as I said, this is for when you want to kill some time and still
make a few bucks besides.

My best blog earned me over $500 in one day for a hot trend that lasted
for almost 24 hours. It was a very big news story from about a year ago.

Anyway, thought I'd throw this out there for a Sunday afternoon for those
of you who aren't into football and are tired of BSing with their Aunt
Matilda.

Article Marketing 101

This is a step by step procedure, follow it and I guarantee results (or claim the prize stated above).

Step 1 - Keyword Research And Implementation

A lot of people, especially IM beginners or newbies don't get the entire concept behind the 'keyword(s)'. There are many types of keywords, for this method we will be using one known as long tail keywords or keyword phrases.

To illustrate the process, I'm going to grab a random niche, a highly competitive one to show you that competition can only be good (because there is higher demand). The dating niche.

Now, head to your favourite keyword research tool (I use Seo Book Keyword Suggestion Tool myself).

Here is where you will be doing all the research.

Your goal is to look for any long tail keyword related to the niche that has at least 10 daily search results (the more the better obviously) and LESS than 10,000 google competition (the less the better). Allow me to elaborate.

I typed the search term pick up in the keyword tool and a long list of all types of keywords displays, since we are looking for long tails it should be a phrase containing 2 or more words.

Here is one sweet talk pick up lines (yes that is ONE keyword) it has over 650 overall daily search results (an average between the top 3 search engines) and a whopping Google competition of 131 websites (note scarcasm).

Hint: There are many more profitable keywords in that list alone.

Some people are going to kill me for revealing that keyword, it has the potential of driving 650+ visitors to your website per DAY with ONE article.

How did I measure competition you may wonder? I went to Google and did a search for the keyword under quotation marks: "sweet talk pick up lines"

Step 2 - Source Research For Your Article

Naturally, to write an article around that keyword you need to know some sweet talk pick up lines, so you will want to do some research on it unless you are some sort of Casanova or VegasVince.

This is the most simple process, go to Google and type sweet talk pick up lines (without quotations this time), check about 5 sources, grab your favourite pick up lines and you are good to go.

Hint: A source can be anything from an encyclopaedia to an article.

Note that in this case, that was very easy research, sometimes you will need to do a more in depth investigation in order to pull out a great article.

For this you can talk to Bev Clement, I believe she has a very solid research process.

Step 3 - Writing The Article

You don't have to be a professional writer to pull off an amazing article, simply write the article as if you were speaking to a client verbally.

Don't forget to make the article short (350-650 Words is my criteria), you don't want the reader bored to death and leaving half way through (that accomplishes nothing) by making them read your college thesis.

The basic structure of an article is composed of 6 parts. In order:

1. Title or Headline

The keyword MUST go here, for example: Top 10 Sweet Talk Pick Up Lines To Capture Her Attention. Headlines are used to caputure the reader's attention, in this case it is also used to optimize the article for the search engines.

2. Summary

The keyword doesn't necessarily have to go in this one, it's all about writing an appealing summary of your article. The summary is what will most likely show in the search engines under the title/headline of the article.

3. First Paragraph

Again, the keyword MUST go here once (don't flood it). Make it interesting and appealing or the visitor/reader will leave.

4. Body

Add the keyword in this part once again and insert the sweet talk pick up lines you chose during your research.

5. Last Paragraph or Conclusion

This is where you close the reader. Add the keyword one last time and present a subtle lead to the resource box (where you promote your website).

6. Resource Box

The best article directories will only allow you to promote or advertise something in this space, it has to be appealing and it MUST have a clear call to action. This is where you add the link to your website (ideally in anchor text for a keyword you have your website optimized around for SEO purposes (mainly backlinking)).

Just as an example: "If you truly want to get the girl, go to this website now: [Insert Link in Anchor Text] It is the top resource on dating advice and tips courtesy of the leading dating guru."

Step 4 - Submitting The Article

Great! Now you have created a very powerful article, it's time to submit it. You can submit to as many article directories as you wish without any penalties (duplicate content does not apply unless you submit the same article under the same domain).

The leading article directory is Ezine Articles. Their customer support may not be the best, but no matter what people say it gives the best ROTI (Return Over Time Invested - It's Free) and each day they become more strict on what articles to accept, so you won't get away with crap articles (which is good, crap articles are useless).

After submitting to EZA and getting it approved, feel free to submit to as many article directories as you want.

Step 5 - Securing The Article's Position In The Search Engines

Securing an article in #1 position for a specific keyword using the criteria stated above is VERY easy due to the low level of competition, you just need a few backlinks.

There is software out there (and services) that submit backlinks to over 100 social bookmarking websites, providing you with enough backlinks to secure the article in #1 position. The key to using these programs is:DON'T SPAM, just submit 1-3 backlinks per day at most.

I don't want to mention the backlink automation software I use because that would be promoting a product.

When you do a backlink make sure it is linking to your article IN anchor text with the keyword used in the article.

That close to guarantees your search engine rankings because the competition for the search term(s) is low. Add a killer quality article to the mix and you will be getting backlinks from people you don't even know for free.

Final Step - The Numbers Game

After all the steps above are met, it becomes a numbers game. Submit 100 articles using this method. Don't panic just yet, let me show you why.

Let's say all your articles average 100 views per day and you have a decent average CTR of 20% (these numbers are very common). 100 Views X 20% = 20 Unique Visitors Per Article X 100 Articles = 2,000 DAILYLaser Targeted Visitors (AKA Potential Buyers) to your website.

That is just an example using a below average scenario, the numbers may vary and if you stop submitting articles the traffic may go down (unless the keywords used continue to get the same number of daily hits).

Well that's about it my friends. This works for every single niche out there. And not only are you getting highly targeted traffic to your websites but you are also branding yourself as an expert in the niche(s) you chose. Enjoy!
